Two PhD positions in AI for medical imaging at Technical University of Munich

Description:  The research group AI for Vision focuses on blue-sky research in the fields of (1) machine learning for medical image analysis, (2) weakly and self-supervised learning to address data scarcity in healthcare, and (3) the integration of multimodal clinical data with medical images. It is particularly interested in the application of machine learning and computer vision algorithms in the field of ophthalmology.

The group is led by Dr. Martin Menten and is funded by the Emmy Noether-Program of the German Research Foundation. It is integrated with the Institute for AI in Healthcare and Medicine, directed by Professor Daniel Rueckert, and is based at the Faculty of Informatics at the Campus Garching as well as the Campus Klinikum Rechts der Isar, the university hospital of TUM.


 Offering

We are currently seeking two PhD candidates to join our international team of scientists from the fields of machine learning, computer vision and medical imaging. We offer the ability to work on exciting research projects, access to large multimodal datasets and modern computer hardware. You will be employed via a full-time position (100%) as academic staff with the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L).


 Profile

The ideal candidate would bring with them:

  • A master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • Previous research experience, ideally resulting in a scientific publication, in medical imaging, computer vision or machine learning
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Great communication and interdisciplinary skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
