Contribution of Pakistani Women’s In Care Economy

12th December, 2023: International office, COMSATS University Islamabad campus and Department of Humanities in collaboration with Human Resource Development and Oxfam had organized a talk entitled Contribution of Pakistani Women’s In Care Economy”

The prime objective of conducting this talk was to create an awareness and knowledge about the details of Gender-Equal Distribution of care responsibilities and labor market policies. The results of operationalizing tool for measuring caregiving labour and the Care Economy Index (CEI) was also shared with the audience.

 

Prof. Dr. Shahla Tabassum, Head of the Department of Gender Studies at Fatimah Jinnah University was the speaker of the talk. She is an academician and researcher in the field of Gender Studies and has published numerous research papers and articles in reputable journals, covering topics such as women's contribution to the care economy, education and violence against women.

Prof. Tabassum, enlightened the students that in Pakistan, women’s care and labour work in households has largely been neglected and is considered unproductive. She further added that the household work has not been accounted in national economic and there is little acknowledgement or recognition for it. She has also enforced that there is dire need to implement laws and take measures for the care employment and for further concealing the contributions and work of women. This interactive session provided the students a good insight about the topic.

Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Senior Manager  International office specially thanked the chief guest and the team of HRDN for taking out the time from their busy schedule and for sharing such a wonderful talk which was very informative and at the same time very motivational for the students. He further added that International office of CUI is always endeavor to organize such kind of activity for our students apart from their academic activities.
