Unlocking Futures: Somalia seeks CUI’s Expertise in Technology and Knowledge Sharing to Elevate University Education
Islamabad, December 4, 2023: The Charge d’ Affairs of the Somalian Embassy, Islamabad, H.E. Shirwa Abdullahi Ibrahim, along with Somalian academicians Prof. Hassan Osman Ga’al, Rector, Somalia National University (SNU) and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Hassan, Rector of Benadir University Somalia visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on December 4, 2023.
The delegation engaged in a productive meeting with CUI officials, including Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar, Rector, Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, In-charge, Islamabad Campus, Prof. Dr. Saqib Gulzar, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Shahida Mansoor, Dean, Faculty of Art and Design, Dr. Hammad Omer, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Head, International Office, Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Senior Manager, International Office and a dedicated team of International Office.
The focus of the meeting was on fostering collaboration between CUI and Somalian universities in the areas of technology, and knowledge sharing, skills development, and skills-based training for Somalian universities’ academic and administrative staff, particularly for Somalian National University and Benadir University Somalia. The Somalian delegation expressed a keen interest to CUI for helping enhancing their human resource capacity, improving the education system, and exploring opportunities for joint research initiatives. Importantly, the delegation emphasized a unique approach towards collaboration, proposing knowledge-sharing rather than financial assistance.
The forward-thinking approach aims to empower the Somali academic community and contribute to the development of their educational and research infrastructure. The Rector CUI, Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar, expressed his enthusiasm for the proposed collaboration and assured the Somalian delegation of CUI’s commitment to providing support for academic and technological advancement. As a testament to the existing ties between the two nations, it was revealed that currently, seven Somalian students are pursuing their postgraduate education at CUI Islamabad Campus as international students.
