Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) Sahiwal. The field of Civil Engineering is among the oldest branches of engineering and its history starts millions of years ago, with the first settlement of humans on earth. It deals with the study of designing, constructing and maintaining infrastructure facilities for residence, transportation, and production necessary for human civilization. In addition to this, it refers to technologies to conserve the nature and achieve sustainable society. The infrastructure systems supplied by the Department of Civil Engineering include structural buildings, roads, railways, bridges, harbors, dams, and mass plants. In a greater scope, this study deals with the land improvement and creation of new space like development of residential lands, industrial developments, reclamation, underwater cities, underground structures, and space cities.
Additionally, this field deals with designing and operating disaster prevention systems to protect people from naturally occurred disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, typhoons, droughts, and other environmental pollutions. It also contributes greatly to predict the climate changes and analyze its effects; to develop infrastructure system for extracting renewable energy such as tidal power, wind power, geothermal heat and solar heat and high efficiency energy such as nuclear power, hydroelectric power; and to supply special technology for preservation of natural environment such as epidemiological-biochemical energy production technology.
The Civil engineering (CE) program at COMSATS Sahiwal aims to provide a solid background of the subjects like basic sciences, mathematics, engineering sciences, civil engineering design, humanities and social sciences to develop the necessary technical skills and capabilities for understanding and solving the complex engineering problems. High standard laboratories are established in the department with high standard equipment. Our faculty comes from the national and international leading universities and having expertise in wide range of disciplines including concrete and structures, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, transportation, construction management and environmental engineering. We offer the four (04) years Bachelor of Civil Engineering BS(CE) degree that complies with the accreditation requirements of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), as the PEC gave the permission to start the program w.e.f Fall 2017. The program will also comply with other accreditation bodies, like ABET.
Civil Engineering program at COMSATS Sahiwal provides the world class environment to the local and international students that match best the requirements of program. Rapidly developing infrastructure and natural environment sites can provide important elements of understanding and live examples of engineering designs.
