MECHANICS OF MATERIALS LAB

The Mechanics of Materials Laboratory is used for demonstrating phenomena related to stress, strain, buckling, and fatigue. This lab has basic equipment for mechanics of material like bending in straight beams, curved beam etc. It also has torsion apparatus and Charpy impact tester.

LIST OF EXPERIMENTS

1.To determine the influence of the notch shape on notched bar impact work.
2.To determine the influence of the specimen material on notched bar impact work.
3.To determine visual evaluation of the fracture surface
4.Cantilever Beam
    a)To determine the deflection at the point of application of force.
    b) To determine the elastic line.
5.Bar on two supports
    a) To determine the measurement of the supporting force
    b) To determine the elastic line for center loading.
6.To determine the Maxwell Betti’s influence coefficient and Law.
7. Statically Undetermined System
    a) To determine the supporting force
8.The Bending System
    a) To show how to measure strains and compares the results with theory  

9. The Torsion System
    a) To show how to connect and use shear and torque (torsional) strain gauges to measure                 strains in an object that twists
    b) To show how to compare displayed strains with theory for a torsion beam
10.The Tension System
      a)To show how to connect and use strain gauges to measure strains intwo dimensions
      b)To show how to compare the displayed tensile strains in two dimensions with theory and              prove Poisson’s ratio
11.To find the Strain at various angles in Open End Condition and Close End Condition. 
12.To find out the shear modulus of rods
