Dr. Muhammad Latif (Assistant Professor), administrator of Climate Change and Atmospheric Research (CCAR) group, Department of Meteorology, CUI, delivered a talk titled “Dynamics of South-Asian Summer Monsoon System with Focus Over Pakistan” in 8th National Monsoon Forum, organized by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES), on 6th July 2022 at Ramada Hotel, Islamabad. Dr. Latif talked about the definition of summer monsoon onset and its interannual variations, large-scale dynamics associated with the arrival of monsoon, the spatiotemporal variability and trends of the monsoon rainfall, as well as the associated physical mechanisms responsible for the monsoon rainfall over Pakistan. Dr. Latif concluded that extra-tropic phenomena could be one of the triggers of the monsoon onset over Pakistan, as well as responsible in maintaining the mean rainfall over the country.
