Department of Physics Kicks Off Seminar Series with Talk on Magnetoelectric Materials

April 25, 2025 | COMSATS University Islamabad

The Department of Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad proudly inaugurated its 2025 Seminar Series with a compelling lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Sadia Manzoor, a distinguished faculty member of the department. The event was held on Friday, April 25th, and drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, researchers, and students across various disciplines.

In her talk, titled “Magnetoelectric Materials: Intertwining Electric and Magnetic Realms,” Prof. Manzoor explored the extraordinary coupling of electric and magnetic properties in specialized materials, a field at the forefront of condensed matter physics and materials science.

The presentation delved into both naturally occurring and artificially engineered magnetoelectric (ME) materials, emphasizing:

  • Composite systems, such as magnetic nanopillars embedded within different matrices
  • Reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-based nanostructures with promising multifunctional behavior
  • Insights into the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect and its role in modern data storage technologies
  • Theoretical frameworks including large polaron tunneling models, used to interpret charge transport phenomena in complex media

Prof. Manzoor’s expert insights offered attendees a thorough understanding of the evolution, mechanisms, and technological implications of ME materials. The seminar sparked engaging discussions, paving the way for future research collaborations within the department and beyond.

This inaugural session marks the beginning of a series of research-focused events designed to foster academic dialogue and innovation. The Department of Physics looks forward to hosting more sessions that connect fundamental research with real-world applications.
