Seminar: "Hunting the Invisible – Supersymmetry and the Mystery of Dark Matter"
Hosted by: Department of Physics, COMSATS University Islamabad
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Mario Emilio Gómez – University of Huelva, Spain
Date: [5 May 2025]
Venue: [EE Seminar Hall]
The Department of Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad proudly hosted an intellectually enriching seminar by Prof. Dr. Mario Emilio Gómez, a distinguished theoretical physicist from the University of Huelva, Spain. The seminar, titled "Hunting the Invisible – Supersymmetry and the Mystery of Dark Matter," offered attendees a front-row seat to the forefront of research in particle physics and cosmology.
In his compelling talk, Prof. Gómez tackled one of the universe’s most mystifying components—dark matter, the unseen mass that constitutes more than 80% of the matter in the universe. With clarity and enthusiasm, he introduced supersymmetry, a theoretical framework that proposes the existence of undiscovered particles, some of which could be the elusive constituents of dark matter.
Bridging the gap between collider physics and cosmic phenomena, Prof. Gómez illustrated how discoveries at high-energy particle accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can inform our understanding of the universe at the largest scales. His ability to simplify complex concepts sparked engaging discussions and piqued curiosity among faculty and students alike.
The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where lively questions underscored the audience’s keen interest in the mysterious matter that shapes our universe.
