Vector Borne Diseases in Changing Climate of Pakistan

Prof. Dr. Athar Hussain, head CCRD, presented an invited talk in International Conference and Workshop on “Changing Climate and Dengue Fever in the era of COVID-19”, held at COMSATS University Islamabad, on 10th February 2022. In this talk, Dr. Athar discussed the observational evidences of climate change in Pakistan, both for precipitation and temperature. Then, Dr. Athar discussed the role of climate change on Malaria disease in Pakistan as an example of vector borne disease, based on the findings of Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics dynamic model VECTRI. It was pointed out that the Malaria cases are expected to decrease in coming decade in Pakistan, under RCP4.5 based carbon emission scenario. The details about the Abdus Salam ICTP based VECTRI model are available from the following website:  https://www.ictp.it/research/esp/models/vectri.aspx.
