Chief Executive Director, Ms. Caroline Cummings, OREGON RAIN USA, along with Project Director Ms. Aqsa Khan visited COMSATS University, Islamabad (CUI), Business Incubation Center (BIC), and delivered a talk/session to female students and faculty about the opportunities of securing funding from OREGON RAIN, a US State Department-funded project.  

Thereafter, the delegation met with the Rector of CUI, Prof. Dr. T. Afzal, and briefed about the purposeful visit to BIC-CUI, Pakistan. Pictures of talk and meeting with Rector, CUI are attached.

Islamabad: Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director COMSATS/ Pro-Chancellor of the University visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on December 19, 2022. It was his first visit since he joined the Commission as Executive Director.

The Rector COMSATS University Islamabad, Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal welcomed the Executive Director COMSATS and visit different departments and facilities of the university. The formal briefing session was arranged after tour of the campus. The briefing session was attended by the Rector, Deans of Faculties and Principal Officers of the University

The Registrar gave a detailed presentation about CUI and highlighted that facts, figures, achievements of the University. He briefed that CUI has seven campuses with nine research centers. CUI has over 2,100 faculty members with over 1,100 faculty members having PhD degrees from advanced countries. More than 33,000 students including 360 international students from 23 nationalities are currently enrolled in different campuses. More than 100 degree programs at Bachelor, Masters and PhD level are being offered. The University has more than 90,000 alumni - including 714 PhD graduates and 1,700 international students from 40 nationalities who are serving in different sectors of the country as well as outside Pakistan. The University is focusing on research publications and commercializing such research for the betterment of the country. The University has published more than 20,000 impact factor research publications and 94 patents have been filed. According to Times Higher Education, CUI is ranked number six (6) in the country and is in the band of 601-800 in World Best University Rankings 2023. CUI is offering generous number of scholarships (100 Scholarships) for the nationals of the COMSATS member countries.

Dr. Zakaria appreciated CUI's achievements, milestones, services to society, performance of research centers, offer of scholarships to COMSATS' member states. It was discussed to align University’s nine research centers with Pakistan’s economic as well as industrial needs. The Centers may advise the Government of Pakistan on different issues as think tank for the particular initiative. It was also resolved to align Student Startup Business Center of CUI with National Incubation Center. Ambassador Zakaria assured that COMSATS Headquarter will make best efforts to utilize scholarships offered by the University for its member countries. Dr Zakaria invited Rector CUI to participate in upcoming meeting of COMSATS Coordinating Council. Dr. Zakaria assured COMSATS' full support to CUI for promoting University's ambitious development plans over the coming years.

Islamabad: A large number of Vice-Chancellors/ Rectors/ Presidents of universities of different Islamic countries visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) on December 11, 2022. The countries include Nigeria, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tanzania and Uganda. The Rector CUI Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal welcomed the delegates followed by a presentation of CUI which was made by Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head International Office. The delegates were briefed about COMSATS University’ history, faculties, departments, research activities, rankings and achievements and showed them university facilities and Junaid Zaidi Central Library. CUI has seven campuses with nine research centers in the country. It has over 2,100 faculty members with over 1,100 faculty members having PhD degrees from advanced countries. CUI has 33,000 students including 400 international students enrolled in different campuses. The university offers more than 100 degree programs at BS, MS and PhD level. More than 90,000 alumni including 1,750 international alumni from 38 nationalities are serving in different sectors of economy of the country as well as outside Pakistan.

The Rectors expressed mutual interests in developing cooperation between CUI and universities of Islamic countries. They also affirmed their intentions to further discuss various ways to foster institutional cooperation and engagements.

Islamabad: A delegation from Kazakhstan visited COMSATS University Islamabad on December 9, 2022. The delegation comprised of Dr. Pen Sergey Gennadyevich, Rector (Provost), M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, Kazakhstan and Prof. Dr. Kopishev Eldar Ertaevich, Head of Chemistry Department, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan. The two-member delegation met with Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal, Rector, COMSATS University Islamabad along-with Prof. Mahmood A Kiyani, Professor, Department of Bio Sciences and Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head, International Office. The purpose of the visit was to explore mutual areas of academic and research collaborations between universities of two countries.

The host briefed the delegates about COMSATS’ history, faculties, departments, research activities, rankings and achievements and showed them university facilities, labs and library. The Rectors and Prof. Eldar expressed mutual interests in developing cooperation between their universities. They also affirmed their intentions to further discuss various ways to foster institutional cooperation.

The varsity has more than 33,000 enrolled students and offers more than 100 degree programs at BS, MS and PhD level. Further the varsity has more than 90,000 alumni serving in different sectors of economy of the country as well as outside Pakistan. The delegation was also shown different academic and research facilities and infrastructure of CUI.

CUI hopes that this visit will be an opportunity for boosting internationalization.

Islamabad: A two-member delegation of Brno University of Technology (BUT), Czech Republic visited COMSATS University Islamabad on December 5, 2022. The composition of delegation was Dr. Ing. Vítezslav Beran, Vice-Dean for External Relations and Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Graphics and Multimedia Technology, Faculty of Information Technology and Dr. Ing. Ondrej Ryšavý Researcher, Department of Information Systems. The purpose of their visit was to explore academic and research collaborations between BUT and CUI.

Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head International Office and Prof. Dr. Shurjeel Wyne, HoD, Electrical & Computer Engineering welcomed the guests. The delegations were shown academic and research facilities of the campus. The visited different Labs of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Data Center of CUI, Labs of Computer Science Department, and Junaid Zaidi Library of CUI.

The formal meeting with the delegation was chaired by Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Habib, Dean, Faculty of Information Science and Technology accompanied by Prof. Dr. Ehsan Ullah Munir, Chairman, Department of Computer Science, Prof. Dr. Laiq Khan, Chairperson, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head International Office, Prof. Dr. Shurjeel Wyne, HoD, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Prof Dr. Majid Iqbal, Head, Department of Computer Science, and Dr. Adnan Fida, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Both sides gave detailed presentation explaining their strengths and areas of mutual interest to collaborate and identified research groups.

The Delegation called on to Prof. Dr. Muhammad T. Afzal, Rector, CUI and areas of mutual interests were discussed. Souvenir was presented to the guests with a click of photo.
