Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abid, T.I., UNESCO Chair (IWRM) at CUI Wah Campus attended the 2nd UNESCO Chair Holders’ Coordination Meeting held at MNS University of Agriculture, Multan, on November 18, 2025. The meeting was organized by the UNESCO Chair on Low Carbon and Sustainable Agriculture in Biosphere Reserves and was followed by a seminar marking International Biosphere Reserve Day under the theme “People, Nature, and Harmony: Pakistan’s Biosphere Reserves in Focus.”

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Asif Ali (T.I.), and Co-Chair Prof. Dr. Irfan Ahmad Baig welcomed UNESCO Chair holders from across the country and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to promote sustainability.

During the coordination meeting, participants discussed key priorities, including low-carbon agriculture, improved collaboration among Pakistan’s biosphere reserves, and enhanced planning for climate-resilient communities. Prof. Dr. Abid presented updates on the UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Systems for Integrated Water Resources Management and invited fellow Chair holders to strengthen joint initiatives for collective benefit.

The seminar featured national and international experts who highlighted strategies for fostering harmony between people and nature, strengthening scientific partnerships, supporting resilient rural communities, conserving desert biodiversity, and advancing sustainable afforestation in South Punjab.

Prof. Dr. Abid appreciated Prof. Dr. Irfan Ahmad Baig and his team for organizing the event and acknowledged the Vice Chancellor’s leadership in promoting national cooperation among biosphere reserves. The event reaffirmed the UNESCO Chair holders’ commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and meaningful scientific collaboration.
