The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is calling for applications for its Visiting Scholars Program (OIST Visiting Scholars Program) 2026. The duration of this fully funded research program will be 3–12 months, and will cover round-trip airfare. Scholars will get on-campus accommodation and office space to conduct their research. They will also get per diem support to meet their living expenses. The OIST Visiting program is offered in different fields of research including mathematics, physics, computational sciences, chemistry, engineering, life sciences and others. OIST encourages applications from women and underrepresented groups, aiming to promote diversity and inclusion in this research program. Candidates who have completed their PhD in the relevant field are eligible to apply for this visiting research program.
Course Level: Visiting Scholars Program (3-12 months)
Grants: The program has no application fees.
· Travelling expenses of the selected candidates will be covered.
· On-campus accommodation will be provided.
· Participants will get office space for their research work.
· Scholars will get per diem support for living expenses.
· The program has no mandatory teaching responsibilities.
· Logistical and administrative support will be provided.
· The visiting program will provide access to library, computers, and other research facilities.
· The opportunity is open to all disciplines and fields of research.
· Scholars can choose to participate in research seminars and lectures for graduate students.
· Scholars can submit proposals for additional outreach activity, short courses for graduate students, or career talks.
Eligibility criteria: Applicants must have done Ph.D in the relevant field.
· Applicants should be independent researchers.
· Candidates should have an academic position equivalent to senior postdoctorate, junior group leader, or faculty member at a research institution.
· Applicants must submit all the required documents and materials.
· Applicants should apply as “Experimental Visiting Scholars” who require access to a lab.
· Researchers are expected to deliver a general-audience lecture about their field of research.
