Amidst celebrations, the International Office (IO) organized the “France Focus Day” on October 10, 2018 in the videoconference room, Junaid Zaidi library to enlighten students, faculty and staff about educational and research opportunities in France. Mr. Sebastien Cartier, Higher Education Attache, Cultural and Cooperation Department, Embassy of France graced the event as Guest of Honor.

Mr. Sebastien Cartier, referring himself as a friend of COMSATS University, spoke about French history, economy, politics, culture and education system and also illustrated the facts with short videos.  Subsequently, he delivered an interactive and engaging presentation on “Study in France” emphasizing on all major aspects of its top-notch higher education and research facilities. Afterwards, a Q&A session was opened for the students and detailed answers were given by Mr. Cartier to the students’ queries. He also clarified some general misconceptions about studying in France relating to language and fee structures. It was informed that it is very well possible to do higher studies in France in the English language and the fees are generally quite nominal. Students are allowed to work part time to finance their living expenses.

A recount of their personal experience while studying in France, was shared by two senior faculty members, Dr. Bushra Sadiq and Dr. Abdul Rauf Siddiqi who are both French Alumni. They greatly appreciated the beauty, diversity and culture of France. Dr. Bushra shared her anecdotes regarding the enriching experience and exposure of doing her doctorate from France. Dr. Abdul Rauf, on the other hand highlighted the quality research done in France and shared that the field medals and Nobel Prizes in research are often bagged by the French universities.

To make the event more interesting and lively a quiz on quick facts about France was also included in the program followed by outstanding vocal and instrumental performances by the COMSATS University, Islamabad student band ‘Mousiqi’.

To close the event, Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Senior Manager, International Office acknowledged and appreciated the French Embassy for their continued cooperation with COMSATS University, Islamabad. He thanked Mr. Sebastien Cartier for his time and conducting a comprehensively informative session for the students. In his remarks he stated that we would like to further enhance the existing educational relationship with France. He also invited to open a French Book Corner at the COMSATS University, Islamabad Library. Mr. Tawab also admired the great efforts put in by the CUI students to make France Focus Day a success. 

Mr. Ali Tawab presented a momento to the guest and a group photo marked the end of the event. Witnessing a well-attended event, the French Embassy diplomat departed from COMSATS University, Islamabad on a happy note.
