COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) reaffirmed its leadership role in international research and innovation collaboration through active participation in the 4th D-8 Network of Pioneers for Research and Innovation (D-8 NPRI) Summit, held from October 6-9, 2025, at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Dr. Hammad Omer, T.I., Head of the International Office, represented CUI at the Summit.

The D-8 NPRI, founded and currently chaired by CUI, serves as a strategic platform to foster joint research initiatives, innovation-driven partnerships, and capacity-building across the Developing Eight (D-8) member countries. The Summit convened senior academic leaders, researchers, and institutional representatives from across the D-8 region to deliberate on shared priorities in science, technology, and higher education.

Key outcomes of the Summit included the signing of a Letter of Intent between COMSATS University Islamabad / D-8 NPRI and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation in priority research areas. In a significant show of support for collaborative research, Al-Hidayah Group Malaysia announced a research support pledge of MYR 100,000. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaborative research projects, faculty and researcher exchanges, joint supervision, and enhanced student mobility among D-8 member institutions.

An online webinar on Global Clean Energy Summit: Empowering Nations Towards A Green Future was held on July 13, 2023, Thursday.

Dr. Vaqar Ahmed, Joint Executive Director (SDPI), Islamabad gave the welcome remarks. Opening remarks were given by Ms. Lidia Wojtal, Project Lead, Agora Energiewende. Dr. Ute Collier, Deputy Director (Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was the keynote speaker. A large number of participants attended the webinar. Various options for renewable energy linked to low carbon technologies were discussed. Dr Ghulam Abbas from CCRD attended the webinar and recorded his feedback for achieving net zero target.

Ge4 is an international independent non-profit network of universities established in 1996 for the purpose of connecting global industry and academic in which UTM is an active member.

Global Peace Summit Turkey 2020 

Global Peace Summit Turkey 2020 (GPST) is providing opportunities to extraordinary young, competent and enthusiastic peace builders from 100+ countries. One, we develop their ideas and road maps moving closer to achieving the sustainable development goals. Two, we advocate for peace in their communities in order to counter extreme violence, hate and all forms of discrimination. 

This summit aims to inspire youth to sharpen skills of peace education, facilitate the exchange of ideas and project sharing, and new network to form with like-minded individuals and world leaders.
