Introduction:

The Department of Biosciences, CUI, Sahiwal was established in 2008.Biosciences faculty includes highly qualified and competent individuals wit excellence in academics as well as research. The Central Library at CUI Sahiwal contains books of eminent authors on the subject matter of Biosciences. Biosciences laboratories at CUI Sahiwal are well equipped and are further being upgraded. Therefore, the Department not only provides scholarly environment for teaching but also offers very conducive research opportunities. Following the esteemed traditions of academic excellence and scholarly research Department of Biosciences, CUI Sahiwal is aimed to produce world class scholars and researchers with expertise in various disciplines of life sciences that will particularly promote the Health, agriculture and Live stock sectors of Pakistan.

Vision:

The vision of the Department of Biological Sciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, Sahiwal campus is to develop a strong regional national and international reputation as a research active department and deliver a high quality comprehensive education in the field of Biological Sciences. We have integrated education and research so that the students not only learn but, through their learning, actively participate in research and innovations. Our Curricula and research are both interdisciplinary and integrative. We believe this unique blend gives us leverage to produce excellent educational and professional opportunities, accept and accomplish grand challenge in science, and stimulate research based economic development.

Currently we are offering one graduate program i.e., Master of Science in Biosciences and two undergraduate programs i.e., Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics and Food Science & Nutrition. We are planning the strategies to advance our research emerging fields of the Biological Sciences and develop our reputation as a nationally recognized learning center for undergraduates and graduates programs. Keeping this in view and the need of a developing country like Pakistan in general and the region of Sahiwal particularly we have planned to start new academic programs in the department. PC1 for launching a bachelor program of Veterinary Medicine has been submitted. Since Sahiwal region is one of the potential dairy hubs in Punjab and famous for its high quality breed of Cattle, there are lots of opportunities available for Veterinary scientist in this area.

We will improve our existing environment for learning and teaching through recruitment of and support for learned and outstanding faculty which will ultimately help to produce competent researchers, academicians and professionals. Special focus will be kept on development of strategies for community welfare and services through our academic programs and research. Proactive approaches will be designed to develop strategic partnerships with academic, corporate and government partners to maximize the societal impacts of our mission.
