Description: 

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is accepting applications for the KAUST Global Fellowship Program. This initiative is designed to attract and support outstanding emerging research leaders and scientists from around the world as they build their path toward a fully independent career.
The program aims to inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers to address global challenges and discover opportunities that benefit humanity. It targets exceptional postdoctoral researchers who bring breakthrough ideas aligned with KAUST’s key research priorities.
Fellows are immersed in a research-driven environment, gaining access to advanced research tools, equipment, and world-class facilities. They are supported by a strong academic and professional community that enables them to pursue ambitious research goals.
The fellowship also includes access to learning and development programs such as the KAUST Mentoring Program, Harvard Higher Education Teaching Certificate, and leadership training, along with extensive networking opportunities.
Each fellow receives up to $40,000 to support their research proposal. Additionally, a yearly living stipend of $75,000, comprehensive medical insurance, accommodation, schooling for up to two children, relocation support, and an annual travel allowance are provided, ensuring financial security to focus fully on research.
The fellowship provides three years of funding, offering a unique opportunity for early-career researchers to independently pursue innovative research and build a strong foundation for a long-term academic or research career.

CUI and UNESCO-TWAS Sign MoU for Fellowship Program

An online signing ceremony was held between COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) and UNESCO–The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) to formalize the CUI–TWAS Fellowship Program, aimed at promoting collaborative research and academic excellence in science and technology.

Dr. Hammad Omer (T.I.), Head, International Office, and Mr. Kashif Masood, Deputy Registrar / Focal person CUI-TWAS fellowship program (International Office), represented CUI during the ceremony, while Prof. Marcelo Knobel, Executive Director, TWAS, represented UNESCO–TWAS.

The ceremony commenced with welcoming remarks by Dr. Hammad Omer, who extended his gratitude to all participants and highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing scientific cooperation among developing countries. He informed the participants that Prof. Dr. Sajid Qamar, Rector CUI, was unable to join the meeting because of some urgent matter, and subsequently read out the Rector’s message, emphasizing CUI’s continued commitment to international collaboration and research excellence.

Following this, Prof. Marcelo Knobel shared a brief history of TWAS, noting that it was founded upon the vision of Pakistan’s Nobel Laureate, Professor Abdus Salam, to support scientific advancement in the developing world. He expressed his appreciation to the teams at CUI and TWAS for their efforts in making the fellowship program a reality.

The ceremony concluded with the formal signing of the agreement and a vote of thanks, marking another milestone in CUI’s journey toward strengthening global academic partnerships and fostering research opportunities for international scholars.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

Description:

To encourage top international postgraduate research students to pursue doctoral studies in Hong Kong, a Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) was established by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council in 2009. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$28,100 and a travel allowance for conferences and research of HK$14,000 per year for the awardees for a maximum of three years. 400 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2025/26 academic year.

Grants: The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$340,800 (approximately US$43,690) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,200 (approximately US$1,820) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years. 400 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2026/27 academic year*. For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen universities. Eligibility criteria: Candidates who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in the following eight universities, irrespective of their country of origin, prior work experience and ethnic background, should be eligible to apply.

  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • The Education University of Hong Kong
  • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities.

Selection Panel:

Shortlisted applications, subject to their areas of studies, will be reviewed by one of the following two Selection Panels comprising experts in the relevant board areas:

  • Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Technology
  • Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies

Selection Criteria: While candidates' academic excellence is of primary importance, the Selection Panels will take into account factors as follows:

  • Academic excellence.
  • Research ability and potential.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills; and Leadership

Deadline:               1 December 2025 at Hong Kong Time 12:00 before submitting applications for PhD admission to their desired universities.
