The Department of Civil Engineering organized an industrial visit on December 9, 2024, for undergraduate students of the 5th and 7th semesters to explore the construction of a high-rise building project at Mount Khalid, Gulberg Greens, Islamabad. The visit provided students with an opportunity to observe various aspects of the project, guided by an in-depth briefing from the project planning coordinator, Syed Muhammad Tuaseen, and his team. Key project details discussed included the number of towers and stories, architectural and structural design, concrete mix design, and steel grades used. The team also explained the integration of advanced techniques such as using micro-silica for high-strength concrete and EPS panels for lightweight, cost-effective construction. Students observed the construction of shear walls, core walls, and the waterproofing system, along with the operation of specialized frameworks for fair-faced concreting. The visit also featured a demonstration of a 1m³ capacity batching plant and a tour of the material testing laboratory, where concrete cylinders were tested to ensure design strength. The session concluded with the project manager engaging faculty members in a discussion, sharing his professional experiences and insights into the challenges and solutions within Pakistan's construction industry.
