International Tall Building Modelling and Design Competition (ITBMDC)

Students from the Department of Civil Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus participated in the International Tall Building Modelling and Design Competition (ITBMDC) organized by University Technology Petronas (UTP), Malaysia and secured 2ndPosition .
The event aims to shed new light on the meaning and value of tall buildings in modern society. The theme for the competition was to “Develop a digital model of a robust multi-storeyAcademic Block for Futuristic University Campus”. In this competition; students were tasked to model and design a tall building considering all the safety precautions in the post-covid era. The team submitted a report in a 10 minutes video showing all the parameters of design. Later, an online presentation was taken by the jury followed by a questions answer session in September, 2022.A team comprised of five students from BS (CVE)- 8th Semester, Hammad Shehzad,Muhammad Abdur Rahman Marghoob, Muhammad Abdullah Khan, Fariha Ahmed and OsamaAhmad under the supervision of Lecturer, Shahzadi Irum secured Silver Prize (2nd position)among the 29 teams from various countries. The cash prize of PKR.25,000/- was also awarded to the team. Teams from Pakistan, Jordan, Indonesia and Malaysia participated in the event thisyear and from Pakistan NED University of Engineering and Technology, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, The University of Faisalabad, and Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro took part in the event.
The team from Department of Civil Engineering, CUI Wah Campus is the only one among all the Pakistani Universities who got top three positions. The Director Campus, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abid, T.I., congratulated and appreciated the students on their efforts and encouraged them to keep participating in such events to take the name of their institution and teachers’ high. The HoD, Dr. Tahir Mehmood also encouraged the winning team and discussed that it was a great opportunity for undergraduate students to practice and polish their knowledge and skills at international level, which they have obtained during their degree of Civil Engineering.
