Industrial Visit To The Rawalpindi Railway Station

The Department of Civil Engineering arranged an Industrial Trip of students under the supervision of Assistant Professor, Dr. Danish Farooq on December 15, 2022 to brief and provide them an opportunity to practically examine the insight of the Rawalpindi Railway Station architecture and railway tracks. The trip brings out the clarification of the course contents of Transportation Engineering.

The Victorian-era Rawalpindi Railway Station is a notable example of Indo-British architecture in the region. The station has five platforms 1,800 feet long and 150 feet wide. Every day, about 15000 passengers traveled from this station to different parts of the country.

The students learned and got the experience of railway engineering and physically watched all phenomena of the railway system including railway track, sleepers, bearing, plates, fish plates, gauge length etc. They also examined the safety and signaling system on spot. The modern equipment used for performance tests of Asphalt mix in the Research area. Students also witnessed the facilities provided for passengers at the railway station. The visit ended with a vote of thanks to the Rawalpindi Railway station administration.
