University of Suffolk, UK Delegation Explores Collaborative Avenues with COMSATS University Islamabad

Islamabad, February 19, 2025 – CUI hosted delegation from the University of Suffolk, UK, at its Islamabad Campus. The delegation comprised Dr. Felix Ngobigha, Senior Lecturer in Network Engineering and Course Leader for the MSc in Computer Science; Mr. Chris Garrett, Associate Director for International Affairs; Ms. Jessica Garrity, Senior International Officer; and Mr. Zia ul Islam, In-Country Representative for Pakistan.

A formal meeting was held between CUI officials and the visiting delegation to explore potential academic collaborations. Representing CUI were Dr. Hammad Omer, T.I., Head International Office; Dr. Farhana Jabeen, Tenured Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science; Dr. Rao Aamir Khan, Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences; Arch. Uzma Kabir, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture; and Mr. Zubair Iqbal, Senior Program Officer, International Office. The discussions were centered on fostering institutional partnerships including student mobility programs, semester exchanges, and faculty linkages for research purposes across multiple disciplines, including Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, and Management Sciences. The discourse underscored the importance of sustained scholarly partnerships and the role of international collaborations in fostering innovation and academic growth.

In addition to the discussions, the visit was enriched by two academic lectures delivered by the visiting scholars. These sessions, attended by students and faculty members from multiple departments, provided critical insights into contemporary academic and professional discourses. Dr. Ross Kemble, Associate Director, Leadership and Management Academy participated virtually from UK due to visa constraints. Dr. Ross delivered a comprehensive lecture titled “Employee Voices in the UK: Changes to Work, Post-Global Financial Crisis.”

Dr. Felix Ngobigha, a Senior Lecturer in Network Engineering and Course Leader for the MSc in Computer Science, presented on “Ecosystem of Computing and Opportunities in the UK.” His lecture covered key advancements in computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, emphasizing the evolving career trajectories within the sector. He imparted knowledge to University students, explaining that the computing ecosystem consists of interconnected hardware, software, networks, and data systems, enabling digital interactions. This ecosystem includes emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, IoT, block chain, and quantum computing, driving advancements across industries. It powers automation, data-driven decision-making, smart infrastructure, and digital transformation, creating vast opportunities in research, business, and technology-driven solutions.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Omer, who emphasized the significance of academic collaboration in fostering knowledge exchange and institutional growth. To commemorate the occasion, souvenirs were presented to the distinguished delegates by Dr. Omer.
