Dr. Qaisar Abbas is a Professor and since July 2004 Head of the Department of Management Sciences at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad. He earned his MSc. in Economics and MPhil in Development Economics from the Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, and his PhD in Human Resource Development from Nankai University, China, in Spring 2000. From September 2006 - September 2007 he undertook post-doctoral research at Cardiff Business School, UK.

Dr. Abbas has worked, among other assignments, as Project Director at the National Commission on Human Development, as Assistant Chief in the Agency for Barani Areas Development, as Deputy Director (Development) in the District Development Committee, and as a Research Officer in the Planning and Development Department of the Civil Secretariat in Lahore and in the Prime Minister's Secretariat Committee for Research and Analysis. He joined our department initially as an Assistant Professor in August 2002.

Dr. Abbas has authored and co-authored eleven research papers which have been, or are in the process of being, published in reputed Pakistani and foreign research journals. He recently completed a research study on Endogenous Growth and Human Capital in Pakistan, which was funded by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and is presently working on two research projects, namely, on "University-Industry Linkages" which is being funded by the HEC, and "Higher Education Institutions in Fostering Entrepreneurship" which is being funded by our university.

Dr. Abbas has taught classes to MBA, MS and PhD students at CIIT and has supervised several masters theses in business and public administration. His main teaching subjects are Business Research Methods and Human Resource Management and Development.

Dr. Muhammad Zahid Iqbal
In Charge MPM Program & MS Department (Evening)

Dr. Iqbal earned his PhD in Human Resource Development from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad. He is the In-Charge of the MPM Program and also the Department of Management Sciences (Evening Session).

Dr. Iqbal is an Assistant Professor teaching graduate-level human resource management and development courses at COMSATS Institute of Information TechnoSlogy, Islamabad. He has just over 11 years experience working with public-sector universities at academic plus administrative posts and at a reputed business organization. He has taught for 3 years and holds a good reputation among research scholars in addition to 8 years of managing distance education at Rawalpindi region of Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad along with part time teaching and 1½ years in sales management in a multinational organization.

Dr. Iqbal has good academic performance, instructional skills, thorough understanding of the subject with ability to convey the same to the students, good communication and comprehension abilities, and thirst for making significant and original contribution towards knowledge and practice through quality research. In addition to familiarity with some regional languages, he is fluent in Urdu and English with good conversation, reading, and writing abilities. Ph.D. in Human Resource Development.

Dr. Aurangzeb Zulfiqar Khan earned his Diplom (Master's Degree) in Business Administration with specialization in Finance from the University of Trier, Germany, in 1990. In 2000 he earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the German University of Administrative Sciences, Speyer, Germany, and his PhD in Public Administration from the same university in 2004.

Dr. Khan worked as Executive Assistant at Hilal Consultants Private Limited in Islamabad, as Programme Coordinator in Islamabad for the Hanns-Seidel Foundation, Germany, and as a Research Fellow for political economy at the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad. He joined our department as an Assistant Professor in March 2005.

Dr. Khan has authored fourteen research publications in the USA, Germany and Pakistan. His work includes pioneering contributions on the subject of economic confidence-building measures between India and Pakistan. He contributed papers on SAARC and ECO, on public administration in Pakistan and on law enforcement in Germany and the European Union. His main teaching subject and area of research interest at CIIT is Project Management.  He has also taught our students Operations Management, Total Quality Management, Business Research Methods, and International Human Resource Management.

Dr. Khan has served on our department's faculty selection, MBA student admission and viva examination committees, and he is the Convenor of our department's Research Committee. He has been awarded the prize for Best Teacher 2007 by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and has been nominated by COMSATS for the presidential award Izaz-e-Fazeelat. Fluent in German, Dr. Khan is CIIT's designated contact person for collaborative linkages with German universities and organizations. He assisted the HEC 's task force for establishment of the Pakistan-German University of Technology at Lahore.

Dr. Khan is proceeding in August 2010 to the United States of America as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar. He will be researching and lecturing on his field of specialization project stakeholder management at the University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering.

Dr. Tahir Masood is the holder of two doctoral degrees. He earned his first PhD in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA, in 1987, and his second PhD in Urban and Regional Science from Texas A&M University, USA, in 1999.

 Dr. Masood brings a wealth of knowledge and decades of professional work experience into the MPM programme. Prior to 1984 he was a Commissioned Officer in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers where he worked for seven years as Garrison Engineer for the navy in Karachi and Islamabad, and planned and managed large projects. After relocating to the United States of America in 1984, Dr. Masood served as a Project Manager/Engineer at the United States Agency for International Development, as Research Specialist/Consultant for the Government of Pakistan’s National Transport Research Center in Islamabad, as Transportation Engineer/Planner for the Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments in Shreveport, and as Senior Transportation Systems Analyst for the Planning Department of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) in Houston, Texas. He also served as Senior Analyst in the METROs Office of Budget and Management, and as Senior Project Manager and Traffic Engineer in its Department of Public Safety, which was his last posting before retirement. Dr. Masood also served as an Associate Professor in the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he taught several undergraduate and graduate classes.

Dr. Masood has a number of publications over the period 1982-2005 to his name and has been a member in several professional associations. He will be joining the CIIT MPM team at the end of August 2008.

Dr. Majid Khan

Dr. Majid earned his masters degree and doctorate from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA.

Dr. Khan’s research interests include development and growth of public and private higher education in Pakistan, human resource development, organizational development and analysis of public policy.

Prior to joining the MPM team Dr. Majid worked as a Deputy Director with the United States Agency for International Development funded Pre-STEP program in Pakistan. Previously, Dr. Majid worked for three years at the Colorado State University, Fort-Collins in the higher education administration. He has also worked with the World Bank funded project as a project management coordinator.

Ghazala Amin

Is a PMP (Project Management Professional), IBM Certified Senior Program Manager and Certified Information specialist. She has received all her education from USA and is an Electrical engineer by profession with Masters in Control Systems and Software Management.

Before coming to Pakistan and joining COMSATS in January 2009, she worked as an IBM program manager, managing multi million dollar projects for Ford, General Motors etc. She has over fifteen years of Information Technology (IT) experience pertaining to Business, Project Management and Manufacturing systems. She has accomplished proficiency in all aspects of the Project Management processes (i.e. Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling and Closing) and has established excellent relationship with clients, vendors and project team members.

Ghazala has accomplished business goals through aggressive, creative and decisive results oriented business approach, combined with strong team motivational skills. Her teaching and mentoring experience includes assignment as an IBM Professional Development Manager, managing and mentoring upwards of 52 IBM employees with their career development plan including IBM Project Management certification.

Shahid Malik

Mr. Malik has a bachelor of science in business administration with specialization in marketing, and a master of science in industrial management from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, USA.

Mr. Malik has over 15 years of global senior management experience in the corporate sector in USA, Pakistan and the Middle East. His area of focus includes include strategy development, operations management, business development, project management, marketing and sales management. He has extensive experience in international investment, marketing and sales opportunities, leading and negotiating multi-million dollar contracts and managing global corporate portfolios, and successfully managing multi-disciplinary teams in operations, marketing, sales, media, advertising and public relations. He has excellent leadership, strategic planning, communication, cross group collaboration and negotiation skills.

He has designed and taught courses in the areas of marketing and sales management to undergraduate and graduate students and is presently an Assistant Professor at COMSATS Islamabad.

Wajid Shakeel Ahmed (Lecturer)

Mr. Ahmed earned his masters degree in the University of Glasgow, UK in 2007.

Mr. Ahmed has taught in the Oxford College of Management Sciences in London, UK. He has extensive experience with finance-related courses: financial management, financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, credit management, investment and portfolio management, financial reporting and analysis and management accounting and control systems.

Mr. Ahmed is presently a Lecturer at COMSATS Islamabad.

Visiting Faculty

Ms. Maliha Elahi earned her Masters in Computer Science from the University of Peshawar in 1991.

Ms. Elahi has approximately fifteen years of professional work experience in several organizations. She served as Programme Advisor in the NGO Strengthening Participatory Organization, as Director Technical in the Cyber Wing of the Government of Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as Director Marketing at the Islamabad Chapter of the Project Management Institute, and as Executive Project Manager Data Base and Data warehouse in the National Database and Registration Authority. She also worked as a Systems Analyst in the Sales Tax Wing of the Government of Pakistan’s Central Board of Revenue, and the Government of Pakistan’s Collectorate of Sales Tax in Peshawar. She worked as a Research Assistant for the United Nations Development Programme and as an Instructor at the Petroman Computer Training Institute in Peshawar.

Ms. Elahi has undertaken extensive consultancy work, for example, on behalf of Teradata Pakistan’s Global Consulting Center, the Department of Justice of the United States of America and the Health Department in Peshawar. She has presented and authored/co-authored several papers and holds PMP certification which she earned in 2005. Ms. Elahi is a chartered member of the Project Management Institute (Islamabad) and, in a voluntary capacity, has served on its Board as Director Marketing, Director-at-Large and Vice-President. She has also worked in its election committee. She is the Initiator of the Toastmasters Club in Islamabad, of which she is its current President, and has sponsored the launching of a similar club in Lahore. She has formed a group of researchers in project management and has been a trainer in project management for the corporate sector.
