Established in 2001, the department of mathematics started a four-year BS mathematics program during Fall-2002 at the Islamabad Campus. Later on, the MS and PhD programs in Mathematics were started in Fall- 2004. Currently, the department offers four-year BS, two-year MS, and PhD with specializations in various sub-disciplines of pure, applied and computational mathematics.
The department is comprised of highly qualified and distinguished faculty with national/international reputation. At present, there are 43 permanent PhD faculty providing colossal strength in research & development.
At present, 90 scholars are enrolled in the PhD program while 104 scholars have successfully completed their PhD in Mathematics. In addition, there are 219 students enrolled in MS Mathematics, while 399 students have completed their MS in Mathematics.
Research by the faculty & students are conducted on regular basis with publication in peer-reviewed journals, abetting the University of COMSATS to become one of the highest research producing institute in Pakistan.
Furthermore, the department aims to pursue excellence in the field of mathematics through modern teaching and research techniques/methodologies, developing appropriate curricula, assembling a pool of talented faculty members and providing an environment conducive to teaching, research & learning. It is also pertinent to mention that the students of mathematics are encouraged to develop innovative ideas in research and its application in solving challenging real-world problems.
