Pakistan Water Week 24-28 October 2022

Like the previous year (2021), Centre for Climate Research and Development (CCRD), COMSATS University Islamabad celebrated Pakistan Water Week (PWW-2022) from 24th to 28th October 2022 with the major collaborating partners like Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), IWMI, Riphah University Islamabad etc. Activities of PWW-2022, has been inaugurated by Honorable Federal Minister, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Ministry of Water Resources on October 27, 2022, at PCRWR, Islamabad.

Poster Competition Sponsored by CCRD, CUI

Under the PWW-2022, different competitions like poster competition, debate competition, final year project competition, urban sculpture and art competition, documentary competition and essay competition among the Universities, Colleges and, School’s students, has been arranged and sponsored by different organizations. CCRD, COMSATS University Islamabad sponsored the poster competitions among the university students under the D-8 Secretariat funded research project titled “Feasibility Study of Provision of Safe Drinking Water through Water Conservation”. Dr. Toqeer Ahmed, Tenured Associate Professor, CCRD, CUI being the PI of this projects managed the different activities as a Focal Person and engaged the students of different universities with his team at CCRD.

Media Interaction Session:

Moreover, in collaboration with Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), a media interaction session focused on “Optimal strategies for water conservation and sustainable water resource management” has also been organized through PTV World on 27th Oct. 2022 under PWW-2022 activities. During this media session a number of students from various public sector universities including, COMSATS University, Bahria University, National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, and Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, academicians, professionals and researchers participated. The session was started with the panel discussion on the topic and moderated by the anchor person from PTV World. The panelists of the discussion were Dr. Rashid Aftab, Director Riphah International University, Dr. Toqeer Ahmad, Tenured Associate Professor, CCRD, COMSATS University Islamabad, Dr. Hifza Rasheed, Secretary, PCRWR, and Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Researcher, IWMI Pakistan. The panelists highlighted the need of water conservation and need of national water policy implementation. They also emphasized the ways to cope with the water quantity and quality issues. The panel discussion was followed by a question-and-answer session by the participants with the panelist. The session remained very interactive and provided an opportunity to student to ask questions on the emerging water issues and challenges faced by the water sector in Pakistan.
