UNESCO Chair on Knowledge Systems for IWRM nominated Lecturer, Summera  Fahmi to attend the panel discussion which was organized by COMSATS University Islamabad in collaboration of Embassy of France and Embassy of Germany held on November 11, 2019 at COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad Campus. The discussion panel was composed of Mr. Bastien Alex (Research Fellow from the Institute of International and Strategic Relations, France; Dr. Adrien Detges, Project Manager/ Analyst, Adelphi from Berlin Germany; Dr. Imran Syed, Head, Centre for Climate Change and Dr. M. Abid, Assistant Professor, Centre for Climate Research and Development, COMSATS University Islamabad. Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck, German Ambassador was the Chief Guest.
The following points were addressed:
  1. Overview about Climate Fragility Compound Risks & Mechanisms Connecting Environmental Change and Conflict
  2. Climate change Implications for Defense and Military Operations
  3. Implications of Climate Change Induced Water Conflicts for Human Security
  4. Environment and security: discourse into and out of climate-induced Conflict

The representatives from Ministry of Climate Change, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and France in Islamabad and Climate Experts from academia and international organizations emphasized on managing the stress and absorbing shocks of changing climate, stability risks for the societies which is increases. Climate Change is the ultimate “Threat Multiplier” aggravating fragile situations and potentially contributing to further social tensions and upheaval.
