In its unending efforts to promote a diverse, cross cultural and truly global learning environment at CIIT, a Thai Book Corner was made part of its Junaid Zaidi Library here on Wednesday 18th October 2017. The Honorable Thai Counselor Ms. Marisa Indramangala from the Royal Thai Embassy Islamabad inaugurated the Thai Corner. The Launch event was well attended by senior CIIT officials, faculty members including a Thai faculty member from the Meteorology Department, Dr. Vanisa Surapipith with her parents, a Thai Alumnus from CS department of CIIT, International Office team, Manager Career Development Center and CIIT students.

While addressing at the opening ceremony the chief guest said that the opening of this corner is an action initiative of the Ex Thai Ambassador H.E Mr. Suchart Liengsaengthong who visited CIIT in Jan 2017 and recently retired. The corner aims at developing better and correct understanding of the culture, history, education, economy and tourism of Thailand and thus strengthening the people to people relationship between both the countries which would lay open potential opportunities for CIIT students to pursue their education and research at Thai educational institutions.

Head IO, Dr. Malik thanked and acknowledged the kind donation of a variety of books from the Thai Embassy. He admired ancient history and culture of Thailand. He also highlighted our previous educational engagements with universities of Thailand and hoped for more collaborative ventures in future. Dr. Malik also thanked Dr. Vanisa’s parents for gracing the occasion with their active participation in the event.

Dr. Vanisa Surapipith greatly admired the addition of a Thai Corner at JZ Library and told the audience that the story of Pakistan-Thailand friendship can be traced down the history as the two countries were once very close. She stressed that the need to abridge the gap between both the countries in present times is more than ever before.

A Thai alumnus at CIIT, Dr. Sheikh Ziauddin from CS department also shared his great study experience at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, where he had a chance to interact with people from more than 40 countries. He spoke high of its multicultural and eventful life, tasty Thai food and fabulous beaches.

A CIIT souvenir was presented to Ma’am Counselor by the Head IO at the end of the ceremony and a group photo of all the attendees was clicked outside the Library. The guests were then taken for a working lunch in the Faculty Cafeteria where delicious traditional homemade Thai food fondly cooked by Dr. Vanisa’s mother, was also served. The Thai guests were seen off the campus by the IO team with profound thanks.
