Dear Students and Parents, Welcome to the Department of Biosciences at COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad campus. Bioscience is fundamental to our rapidly evolving world. The main challenge is to understand our place and role in this very world and to create fundamental knowledge to improve our national policies, economies, and social structure. Biosciences enable us to comprehend global changes in the scientific context of living systems and help us to improve human well-being.

The Department of Biosciences was established in 2003 with an aim to develop skills in students in emerging areas of biological sciences. The mission of our department is to train the young brains in various fields of modern biology including the integrated emerging areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and information technology to become leaders in rapidly evolving world. Our conducive research and academic environment empower our students with a profound understanding of living systems through genetic, molecular, and computational methods of investigation. Since its inception, the department has evolved significantly and now offers 2 BS programs in bioinformatics and biosciences; 6 MS programs in Bioinformatics, Biosciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Genetics and Molecular Virology; and 4 PhD programs with degree titles as Biosciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, and Molecular Genetics. Currently, we are an impressive team of 79 PhD faculty members groomed and trained in the top labs and universities of the developed countries including USA, UK, Germany, France, China, Korea, Japan, Austria, Netherland, Italy etc. Our degree programs currently engage over 1,500 students including foreign nationals who are learning various skills and developing critical and creative thinking vital to success at the department and beyond.
