The Department
The Department of Mathematics is the pride and joy of COMSATS University Islamabad, Vehari Campus. It boasts a highly qualified and distinguished faculty and is a center for excellent research and analysis.
The faculty at the Department of Mathematics has an excellent national and international standing and reputation. There are 8 Ph.D. and 3 MS faculty members representing most of the major fields of the current research. Faculty of Mathematics has been working in this Campus since 2011 and the Department of Mathematics was established in Fall 2018. The Department started a four-year BS Mathematics program in Fall 2018 and 251 BS students have graduated from the department so far. After the successful launching of BS Mathematics, a two-year MS Mathematics program was started in Spring 2019 and 197 MS students have graduated from the department so far. As the result of efforts made by the experienced faculty members, the Department succeeded in starting the Ph.D. program in Fall 2022, and 27 PhD students are currently enrolled in the department. Following the modern trends, the department started BS Mathematics with Data Science in Fall 2024 and more than 21 students are currently enrolled in this program.
The research output of the department is very impressive and speaks clearly for the quality of the work. Since 2011, more than 280 impact factor papers have been published by the faculty. Two faculty members of the department (Dr. H. M. Asim Zafar and Dr. Jawad Raza) have been recognized as the top 2% of scientists in the world for the last 3 years consecutively. The research is being conducted and published extensively in the reputed international journals. Strong research groups are working in various research areas.
The department aims to pursue excellence in Mathematics through teaching and research; by developing appropriate curricula and teaching practices, acquiring talented faculty members, and providing an environment conducive to teaching, research, and learning. The students are encouraged to develop new ideas in research and to apply them to real-world problems. The Department is also planning to work with industry for the development of the country.
