Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (with specialization in Information Technology/Finance)
Program Overview
The study of mathematics can persuade a wide range of interests and abilities. It deals with the questions arising from complicated structures. It develops a wide range of language and insights. These traits make mathematics an essential subject to an insight study of other sciences. The role of Mathematics in the progress of engineering sciences, computer sciences, and physics cannot be denied by any means.
The BS Mathematics program at CUI, Vehari is designed to cater to the evolving international trends in mathematical education. Learning derives from problem-solving and aims at bringing out independent thinking skills. This course focuses on those areas of mathematics that are most readily applicable for the investigation of real-world problems. This course gives you a solid foundation in the fundamentals of applicable mathematics, with the computational support required for real-world investigations built to form a coherent modern program.
Why Study Mathematics
Mathematics is a universal part of human culture. It is the tool and language of engineering and other sciences – physics, computing, biology, etc. Mathematics plays a vital, often unseen, role in many aspects of modern life, e.g. space travel, credit card details on the internet, modeling the functions of human body organs (e.g. heart and brain), modeling the spread of epidemics, and much more.
Mathematics is also about patterns and structure; it is about logical analysis, deduction, and calculation within these patterns and structures. When patterns are found, often in widely different areas of science and technology, the mathematics of these patterns can be used to explain and control natural happenings and situations. Mathematics has an insidious influence on everyday lives and contributes to the wealth of the country.
This degree will provide you with a broad range of skills in problem-solving, logical reasoning, and flexible thinking. This leads to careers that are exciting, challenging, and diverse. Whatever your career plans, or if you have no plans at present, a degree in mathematics provides you with particularly good job prospects.
Objectives
BS Mathematics Program aims to educate mathematics from a much more interactive and conceptual point of view. Investigations and conceptual learning allow one to see Mathematics being created by oneself. Our mission is to provide a new generation of innovative researchers and quality teachers to the nation. Our graduates will find numerous opportunities to work at research and teaching institutes in Pakistan and abroad.
Career opportunities
The Mathematics degree schemes at CUI Vehari will equip you with specialist numerical skills and develop your capacity for logical and analytical thought. These are qualities that are in demand across a broad range of stimulating and rewarding careers.
Studying mathematics allows you to keep your career options open. In this era of science, subjects are merged and research in the world is going on by the collaboration of different disciplines. Therefore, a mathematician can be a good biologist, a neuroscientist, a good analyst in multinational companies and hospitals, and much more.

Teaching and Assessment
Teaching is carried out through lectures, with a project in the final year. Each course comprises three credit hours (two classes per week). Each year comprises of two semesters (Fall and Spring). The progress of students in each semester is examined by quizzes, assignments, and exams (Mid and Final). Midterm and final term are weighted 25% and 50% of total marks, respectively. The remaining 25% of marks go to quizzes and assignments. The minimum criterion to get through any course is to get 50% marks.
