CUI Strengthens Academic Ties with OIC African States
COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) hosted a delegation of OIC-COMSTECH National Focal Points from African member states to explore avenues of enhanced academic and research cooperation on December 2, 2025. The delegates included Prof. Baba-Moussa Farid Abdel Kader (Benin), Dr. Ismaila Amadu (Cameroon), Prof. Mikolo Yobo Christian (Gabon), Mr. Amao Nouridine (Côte d’Ivoire), Prof. El Hadji Omar Thiam (Senegal), Mr. Murtaza Noor (OIC-COMSTECH), and Mr. Omar Jallow (Senior Technical Manager, OIC-COMSTECH). They were welcomed by the In-charge Islamabad Campus, Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, along with the International Office team, and taken on a tour of the Junaid Zaidi Library and the COMSATS Khad’o Khal Gallery, followed by a meeting chaired by Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar. He also delivered a presentation highlighting CUI’s research ecosystem, collaborations with African countries, and the number of African students from OIC member countries who have graduated or are currently enrolled.
The meeting was attended by CUI officials including the Registrar, Dr. Fahim Ashraf Qureshi; Controller of Examinations, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Madani; Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof.Dr. Jamshed Iqbal; Acting Head International Office, Ms. Muniba Nasir; and Coordinator OIC-COMSTECH matters, Ms. Ayesha Masood. Discussions focused on joint research projects with potential funding from OIC, COMSTECH, and COMSATS, while COMSTECH offered to sponsor travel and visa expenses for African students from OIC member countries admitted to CUI. The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a networking lunch.
