COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) organized an event at its Islamabad campus to reimburse the fees of 46 PhD students belonging to less developed areas of the country, under the Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme, implemented by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
The chief guest, Prof. Dr. Ghulam Raza Bhatti, Executive Director, HEC, distributed cheques among the qualifying PhD students of CIIT Islamabad Campus at an impressive ceremony. With this final batch of students getting their fees reimbursed, the total number of such beneficiaries, from across all campuses of CIIT, has reached 1,432.
In his opening remarks, Registrar CIIT, Prof. Dr. Izhar Hussain, welcomed the chief guest and shared details of the funds received from the HEC under the scheme, which have now been disbursed. He appreciated the efforts of the HEC and the Government of Pakistan for focusing on higher education of students hailing from underprivileged areas of the country, who needed to be encouraged.
The chief guest interacted with the students and inquired about their background, hometown and their particular field of research. He urged them to do their best to benefit their regions after completing their degrees.
In his closing remarks, In-charge CIIT Islamabad Campus, Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, profusely thanked the HEC for its dedicated efforts towards the cause of higher education in the country and especially to the Executive Director HEC and other senior officials of his team for gracing the occasion.
