Prof. Dr. Cenap Ozel from Abant Izzet Baysal University, Bolu, Turkey visited the Department of Mathematics, CIIT Islamabad under the HEC Visiting Scholars Program from January 21, 2012 to February 9, 2012.

During his visit, he delivered 5 seminars (3 at CIIT Islamabad, one at CIIT Lahore, and one at the International Islamic University, Islamabad) on the following topics:

• “Complex Cobordism of Hilbert Manifolds, Divided Power Algebras and  Schubert Calculus”
• “Calculation of Integral Cohomology Algebra of Infinite Dimensional Flag manifolds”
• “Groebner-Shirshow basis of Affine Weyl Groups An”

He also wrote a research paper titled “On Generalized Topological Groups” in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Moiz ud Din Khan, which was submitted to the prestigious journal Acta Mathematica Hungarica.

He also mentored many graduate students in the department and collaborated on various research related activities with the faculty.

There were also discussions on a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaborations between CIIT and AIBU. Meetings were held with Rector CIIT and Advisor ILO, CIIT in this regard.

The objectives of his visit were:

• To improve collaboration between the departments of Mathematics at both Universities.
• To organize international conferences and summer schools on Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences each year alternatively in Pakistan and Turkey.
• Co-supervision of graduate students at CIIT.
