COMSATS University Islamabad Welcomes Dr. Adnan Mehmood from Macquarie University Sydney, Australia

Dr. Adnan Mehmood, a distinguished lecturer from the Computer Science Department of Macquarie University Sydney, Australia, paid a visit to COMSATS University Islamabad on September 25, 2024. He was welcomed at CUI by the International Office’s team. Dr. Mehmood met with Dr. Farhana Jabeen, the Head of the Computer Science Department at CUI Islamabad, Dr. Hammad Omer (T.I), the Head International Office, CUI and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fasih ud Din Butt, a senior professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at CUI, Islamabad; to explore potential avenues for academic collaboration and research partnerships. After a brief introduction from both sides, the opportunities for joint research initiatives, student exchange programs, and cross-border innovation in the fields of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Engineering were discussed.

Subsequently, Dr. Mehmood delivered an engaging talk on ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT), packed with illustrations for students of CUI Islamabad Campus. The lecture attracted over 50 students from various departments and mainly revolved around the advancements and challenges of IoT in developing robotic and AI capabilities, particularly in the context of sensors and energy harvesting. He emphasized the need for extensive training of AI to understand and act in human-like context as AI is dependent on the data and information provided to it by humans. Afterwards, a question-and-answer session gave students an opportunity to interact and get more information on IoT and AI.

Dr. Adnan’s visit concluded with a thank you note from Dr. Hammad Omer (T.I.) acknowledging the insights and knowledge shared during the session. The visit marks a promising step towards future academic cooperation between CUI and Macquarie University.
