Radiation Physics Lab, Department of Physics CUI, Islamabad located in Physics Academic Block offers characterization facilities uniquely available only in CUI. The Lab is equipped with detectors used for radiation detection and related measurements. Natural radioactivity measurements are carried out in different aspects with a pronounced focus on Radon measurements. The Lab houses versatile detectors including:

  • GM counter; NaI(Tl) detector for Gamma Spectroscopy
  • Surface Barrier Detector for alpha measurements
  • Gamma Spectroscopy with HPGe (High Purity Germanium Detector and SSNTD (Solid State Nuclear Track Detector). Neutron Activation Analysis using Am-Be mix source.
  • Radon Measurements equipment, CR-39 SSNTD detectors and RAD 7 both Passive and Active techniques for measurements
  • Air Sampler for monitoring natural activity in air and air quality

The Lab has collaboration with PNRA (Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority) SHIFA Hospital, NORI Hospital, PINSTECH and relevant institutions at national level.
