Introduction and Description

The MS Software Engineering Program at the Department of Computer Science CUI focuses on a thorough understanding of the latest research into modern technologies, systems, and analytics. Designed to address the needs of experienced software engineering professionals who want to increase their potential and relevance in the marketplace, the curriculum enables the students to implement, manage, and conduct research into the development, maintenance, and evolution of software products. It helps to learn an advanced skill in software engineering and prepare the students to take high-level jobs in the software industry. The program helps academically oriented students who wish to continue their education and pursue advanced and highly technological aspects of software engineering. We promote our graduates to contribute towards research as well as develop products in the field of Software Engineering. The program is tailored to encompass state-of-the-art concepts of Software Engineering. The goal of the program is to teach students to become leaders in engineering high quality computing solutions to solve real life problems by conducting high quality applied research.

Department of Computer Science has highly qualified, experienced and internationally recognized faculty. The faculty at Department of Computer Science is not limited to a narrow range of specialties rather the specializations of our faculty are spread across the entire spectrum of computer sciences.

Degree Program Structure

The minimum duration of the MS SE program is two years (Four Semesters) and student has to complete three core courses, two domain elective courses and three general elective courses as well as one pre req course of Research Methodology. Student is also required to complete thesis of six credit hours.


At CUI graduate students are part of the department and considered junior colleagues by the faculty. There are dedicated Labs for MS students. Each graduate student in the beginning of his/her program chooses one senior faculty member as his/her supervisor; who apart from supervising the students research work also plays the role of education and career counselor of the student. Such close interaction is extremely beneficial for the proper grooming of the student and is a corner stone of success of the MS(SE) program.

Job Opportunities after MS

On successful completion of the course, graduates will have skills that are attractive to employers and have a solid foundation for contributing to future software design and developments and pursuing research in the field of computer science. A strong liaison of CUI with the industry provides an excellent opportunity to the students to understand the requirement and demand of the local industry from a computer scientist’s view point which helps them to acquire a better position in the market. Our graduates have an excellent record in finding employment in areas such as Information Technology (IT), computing in industry and commerce, research in software engineering or related disciplines, or teaching at various levels.


  1. The candidates for MS(SE) have to qualify GAT test conducted by NTS.
  2. The candidate should have a minimum of 16 years’ degree with min. 2.5 CGPA in Computer Science/Software engineering or relevant fields with no third division or D grade throughout academic career. However, in case deficiency in core computational knowledge and skills, the student may be advised by the department to take some noncredit courses.
