Visit of Delegation from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy

A high-level delegation from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy visited COMSATS University Islamabad on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. The delegation comprised of Prof. Dr. Michele Bugliesi, Rector; Prof. Tiziana Lippiello, Vice-Rector and Provost for International Relations; and Mr. Mauro Cannone, Director, Global Engagement. The purpose of the visit was to explore possible avenues of educational and research collaboration between the two universities.

The delegates were shown academic and allied facilities of CUI. The delegation expressed all praises for the lush green campus of CUI. The delegation had meeting with high officials of CUI. The COMSATS University Islamabad, Abbottabad campus, Lahore campus and Prof. Dr. Bahadur Nawab from Abbottabad Campus (currently visiting Nepal) joined the meeting through video link. After the introduction by the participants of the meeting, official of International Office of COMSATS University Islamabad gave brief presentation about COMSATS University, Islamabad. Later, Rector of Ca’ Foscari university of Venice, Italy gave presentation about their university.

The discussions resolved to identify key researchers/ faculty members from both universities. The International Office will coordinate between the two universities to identify research areas of mutual interest of the researchers of the two universities including exploring possibilities of funding research projects, student exchanges, etc.

The Head (CS) showed interest in doing joint research in the field of cyber security, artificial intelligence and information security. He also stressed on the importance of impact based research.

While wrapping up the session, Senior Manager IO thanked the delegation and shared that COMSATS University, Islamabad is keen to foster close ties with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He invited the delegates to first identify focal persons and prioritize areas in two weeks’ time after which the collaboration shall be steered into a more concrete one.

The day’s activity ended with a group photograph and exchange of souvenirs.
