The atmospheric/environmental pollution is recognized as the main driver of climate change which is one of the greatest challenges today and an important factor in shaping strategies for future sustainable development. Accordingly, there is a growing need of awareness, research, professional expertise and monitoring networks in environmental science and its applications specifically in the developing world.

In this regard, on Dec. 18, 2014 a video-conference meeting held between Department of Meteorology, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad and Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen, Germany conceived and facilitated by Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, T.I. Dean of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad. The meeting aimed at exploring the possible collaboration between the two institutes. Dr. Kalim Ullah, Incharge / Head of the Department of the Meteorology briefed the participants about the scope and state of the art of Environmental Research at COMSATS whereas Priv.-Doz. Dr. Annette Ladstätter-Weißenmayer gave a presentation about the scientific expertise in Environmental Physics and Chemistry, ground, airborne and satellite based instrumentation, remote sensing and experience in establishing high level education and research in Atmospheric and Climate related fields. She expressed her willingness to provide training in ground and remotely based instrument/measurement techniques, analytic methods and numerical data analysis.

The meeting concluded with an understanding to move forward with a vision to share knowledge and expertise primarily for the benefit of MS and PhD students at COMSATS.
