Akhtar Hameed Khan National Centre for Rural Development (AHKNCRD), an Executive Department of Establishment Division, is responsible for promoting the cause of rural development in Pakistan through its programs of training and research. Training is imparted, interalia to officials of the Local Government and Rural Development Departments, elected representatives, functionaries of Nation Building Department (NBD’s) to improve their professional skills and promote sharing of experiences regarding rural development in Pakistan.

AHKNCRD planned to organize a five days’ training workshop on “Research Methodologies and Techniques for Development” from December 13-17, 2021. The major objectives of the training programme were:

>  To learn approaches of conducting research and formulating research design and proposal.

>  To learn how to conduct literature review and employ referencing and citation techniques.

>  To learn data collection and analysis techniques for different types of research; and,

>  To facilitate sharing of relevant experiences, subject knowledge, and skills among each other.

Dr. Farrukh Raza Amin and Dr. Umair Bin Nisar were nominated for this training workshop from Center for Climate Research & Development (CCRD), COMSATS University Islamabad. The training workshop was kick-off with recitation of the Holy Quran, and welcome remarks of Mr. Israr Muhammad Khan, Director General, NCRD. On December 13th and 14th, Dr. Khushbakht Hina (Associate Professor), Director QEC, NUML, Islamabad delivered presentation on “Research & Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan and Technicalities in Writing Research Proposal. She also shared her experience to understand the difference between “Theoretical & Conceptual Frameworks and Honest Academic Writing-Issues & Challenges of Plagiarism by following HEC Policy on Plagiarism”. On December 15th, Dr. Obaid Ullah, Manager QEC, NUML, Islamabad delivered lecture on “Technical Issues and Solution of Research Tool and their Validity and Reliability”, while after the break Dr. Muhammad Usman, Database Administrator, PASTIC National Center, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad presented lecture on “Data Analysis Methods and Statistical Techniques for Data Analysis”. On December 16th, Dr. Muhammad Usman, QAU also gave us “Hands on Learning Practice of SPSS Statistics” to understand the SPSS tool for research. On the final day of the training workshop, Dr. Umm-e-Laila, Assistant Professor, Department of Governance & Public Policy, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Islamabad shared her research experience to develop a route for “Research Proposal Design and its Writing Plan”. At the end of the day, Mr. Israr Mohammad Khan, DG, NCRD concluded the five days training session and distributed certificates among the participants.
