Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Remote Sensing and GIS is a program aimed at fostering sustainable development in geo-spatial sciences and industries. This course offers a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge to enhance students' understanding and skills in spatial technology, GIS, RS, meteorology, environmental management, surveying, and geomatics. The program plays a crucial role in various fields such as climate change, public health, transportation safety, and security, and is therefore highly relevant in industry. It's designed to provide skilled manpower for sectors like telecommunication, weather and climate, transportation, urban planning, national security, utility, environment, and agriculture.
Program Objectives
- To provide practical application for scientific knowledge in photogrammetry, GIS, and RS.
- To educate and train students in using RS, GIS, database technology, spatial/temporal modeling, and software development principles in Earth sciences, environmental sciences, soil sciences, hydrology, and atmospheric science.
- To enable students to design effective solutions to state-of-the-art problems in the fields of environment, monitoring, and analyzing the earth’s resources.
- To impart a strong understanding of geospatial science techniques to students with emphasis on application fields of land governance, environmental management, disaster management, natural resources management, and urban and regional planning.
- To prepare students to help in geofencing emerging diseases, health risk analysis, topographical change detection, population spread trend analysis, live traffic control and management, forest management, flood monitoring, surface water/resource management, land subsidence in coastal areas, and coastal erosion.
- To contribute to glacial monitoring, tectonic uplifts and subduction zones, oceanographic monitoring, cattle monitoring in open fields, and updating geographic and geologic/topographic maps of Pakistan.
Entry Requirements
Intermediate (HSSC), both Pre-Engineering and Pre-Medical, A-level, or an equivalent qualification, from any recognized Board/ University, with a minimum of 2nd division (50%), certified by Inter-Boards Coordination Committee (IBCC).
For uniformity in the evaluation system, the minimum CGPA required to pass a semester will be followed as per CUI criteria. Minimum 130+ credits are required to complete BS in Remote Sensing and GIS program and minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) required is 2.0 out of a maximum of 4.0 CGPA.
Scheme of Studies
Career Prospects
The graduates of the BS Remote Sensing and GIS program can find employment in both private and state-funded institutions. Our students join CDA, PMD, Armed forces, GSP, WASA, NLC, PCRWR as a GIS specialists and database administrators. Other potential career paths include GIS specialists in real estate sector, resource information management specialists, in natural resource sector, and GIS and RS specialists in research institutes and international research organizations. This degree also opens opportunities for graduates to work in, urban and regional planning, and areas requiring geographic and geologic/topographic mapping and disaster assessment and management in different NGO’s.
