Art and design are the two basic components of culture and traditions of any society. To understand cultural heritage, one has to learn about its arts and design. The Department of Art and Design at COMSATS University Islamabad is an important step in the direction to recognize and acknowledge the role of cultural heritage in our society. The focus of the department is on inter-disciplinary approach where Bachelors of Fine Arts and Bachelors of Design, undergrad degree programs are the center of developing creative minds.
The four-year degree, undergrad program of Design emphasis on the art and design of Pakistan and its region. The designers in this context learn about the art and design developing at the regional level and global level. They are introduced to new developments in the fields of art and design. It helps in creating a cultural context, which is based on understanding of ideas and approaches that are founded on broader perspectives about the environment all around. This interdisciplinary approach of teaching design allows the students to broaden their horizons and experiences. We aim to create innovative and critical thinkers with a deep understanding of traditions and the ability to challenge conventions. We pursue to develop an inclusive, creative community of designers and audiences seeking education, contemplation, inspiration, and dialogue. Our students of design program reflect our teaching philosophy through their research and thesis projects.
