Everyone hides some part of them, considering it indecent and inappropriate to conform to societal norms. This concept is as old as consciousness exists in human beings, since most of these hidden traits are primitive human emotions such as aggression, sexual desires and selfish notions.
Carl Jung explored this concept more and elaborated in great detail the importance of acknowledging these hidden traits. Carl Jung’s ‘Theory of The Shadow’ states that if these repressed feelings are ignored, they bottle up and can damage the human psyche. On the other hand, if these suppressed emotions are embraced, they can make a human more balanced and whole.
Every human being is susceptible to this concept. Realizing the existence of the things we hide away in our subconscious gives way to a more healthy and authentic lifestyle
