Department of Art and Design, COMSATS University Islamabad presents its 10th batch of B.Design students which marks a decade long service of serving the Pakistani and International design community with professionals of elite quality. Bachelor of Design degree, here at CUI remains one of the most rewarding academic mediums that has shown tremendous ability to adopt and still provide quality education and learning experiences to our students. The present batch of 31 students is also the biggest batch of students ever in the history of the department. And although this provided some unique challenges never faced before, the students certainly rose to the challenge and put forth an amazing array of projects that matched the high standard the dept has set for its students and at the same time pushing the boundaries of what conventional design thinking is. The post pandemic world, the role of a designer suddenly has become integral to the modern society where digital and practical solutions to the “New Normal” are very much in demand. This display of student project is a testament to the resiliency of human spirit and the ability of our youth to adapt and evolve to the changing dynamics around us. The student projects include topics of social and personal awareness campaigns, some music and game design projects and interesting branding and marketing solutions. CUI and Department of Art & Design would also like to acknowledge the senior academics who were pioneers of the department and are not with us anymore. The titular image for this year’s thesis campaign is a nod back to the first thesis campaign by the late Mr. Yawar Abbas Zaidi – Disambiguation – created by Iqra Mahmood, based upon his ideals of type de-construction and his love for the Urdu language. He provided a much-needed vision and direction to the dept during its early days of inception.
