Description:

The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) is offering limited funding for Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP) and Scientific Capacity Development Programme (CAPaBLE) projects aligned with its thematic areas and sub-regional priorities.

CRRP proposals must involve at least three APN members or approved countries and emphasize actionable, collaboratively designed research with non-academic stakeholders. These projects should focus on global change and sustainability, developing pathways and mechanisms for sustainable development, place-based integrative research, and co-designed initiatives supporting international frameworks like the Paris Agreement and SDGs.

CAPaBLE proposals aim to strengthen scientific capacity in developing countries at individual, organizational, and systemic levels. They should focus on developing and utilizing capacity through innovative methods, raising awareness among policymakers and the public, fostering science-policy interfaces, forming partnerships that align with global frameworks, and enhancing science communication to reach non-scientific audiences.

APN’s subregional committees have outlined key themes for each subregion. For South Asia, the focus areas include climate change adaptation, losses and damages, and the impacts of extreme events; future GHG emission scenarios, including decarbonisation pathways; integrated urban waste management for sustainable development; enhancing urban and rural water security in the face of global change; and ecosystem resilience through promotion of ecosystem-based adaptation strategies.

These topics address climate-smart solutions, decarbonisation strategies, sustainable waste management, and the critical role of ecosystems in providing sustainable livelihoods and food security.
Researchers, academics, and practitioners from institutions in APN member or approved countries are eligible to apply. APN strongly encourages applications from early career professionals (ECPs) aged 40 or under, providing them a platform to contribute innovative ideas and regional solutions to global change challenges. Proposals involving majority-ECP teams will receive special consideration.
Applicants should note that APN funds cannot be used for institutional running costs, administrative or researcher salaries, consultant fees, long-term monitoring systems, or general-purpose equipment. Collaborators must be affiliated with eligible institutions, with restrictions on the number of projects they can participate in each fiscal year.
The proposal submission process consists of four main stages:
  • submission of the summary proposal,
  • invitation to full proposal,
  • review and decision-making, and
  • project commencement.

The deadline for submission of Stage 1 summary proposals for both CRRP and CAPaBLE is Sunday, 30 November 2025, at 23:59 Japan Standard Time.
