EKTU Delegation Highlights Study and Scholarship Opportunities in Kazakhstan at CUI Seminar

Islamabad, 30 April 2025 – COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) hosted a seminar on study and scholarship opportunities in Kazakhstan, with a special focus on D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU). The session was held at 3:00 PM and drew significant interest from students eager to explore international academic pathways. The visiting delegation from EKTU comprised:

• Ms. Aisaule Nurgazy, Chief Specialist, Department of International Cooperation
• Mr. Ibtasam Umar, First-year Master's Student in Mechanical Engineering

During the seminar, Ms. Aisaule presented Kazakhstan as a culturally rich and academically robust destination for higher education. She emphasized that EKTU, located in an industrial hub of the country, offers a diverse range of programs in cutting-edge fields such as mining, meteorology, artificial intelligence, electric vehicle engineering, and economics. The EKTU offers a number of Master’s and PhD programs in English and provided a comprehensive list of these during the session.

Scholarship Opportunities

Students were informed that 15 universities in Kazakhstan, including EKTU, offer generous scholarships to international applicants. These scholarships typically cover:

• Full tuition fees
• Free university accommodation
• A monthly stipend of USD 250, sufficient for living expenses with some room for savings. Applicants are, however, expected to cover their visa processing fees and airfare.

Notably, for Master’s and PhD programs, students only need to provide an English proficiency certificate—IELTS is not a mandatory requirement.

Application Guidelines and Requirements

Prospective students were advised to budget PKR 300,000–350,000 for initial preparations. Essential documentation includes:

• Verification from IBCC, MoFA, and HEC
• A Police Character Certificate
• No bank statement is required for the scholarship application. Applications must be submitted through the official Study in Kazakhstan portal at https://bolashak.gov.kz/en by 30 May 2025.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where students expressed keen interest in the opportunities discussed. The combination of affordable costs, English-medium programs, and comprehensive scholarships made this international option particularly appealing to CUI students.
