Dr.
Naim Rashid, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical
Engineering at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT),
Lahore Campus, in the only Pakistani to have won this year’s
International Green Talent Award (2015), conferred by the Ministry of
Education and Research, Germany.
This
award is granted to young scientists (less than 32 years in age) who
work on developing “Green and Sustainable Technology.” All 27 winners
from across the globe are offered a two-week trip to get exposed to
contemporary research in Germany. In 2016, a three-month research stay
in Germany will also be offered to the awardees, for establishing
research collaborations and career development.
“Being
the recipient of this award is a (matter of) great pride to the CIIT
and myself too. I take this opportunity to thank (the) CIIT family for
providing me a platform where people are encouraged, motivated and
supported to excel and master their inner abilities,” said Dr. Naim
Rahid while sharing the news of winning the award with the CIIT
Management.
Rector
CIIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, congratulated Dr. Naim on winning the
award and for bringing laurels to the country and encouraged him to
“keep up the good work.”
Dr.
Naim Rashid’s research focuses on Bio-energy production from waste
materials and microalgae. He is also aiming to develop technology, such
as microbial fuel cell, which can use microalgae for bio-fuels
production, wastewater treatment, and electricity generation
simultaneously.
