CIIT CPD Committee held two CPD Workshops

CIIT CPD committee successfully held two remarkable CPD (Continuing Professional Development) events under Pakistan Engineering Council calendar on 28th of August and 1st of September 2015. First event was a workshop on COMSOL Multi-physics tool run by Dr. Fahad Rehman of Chemical Engineering Department and the second one was on GAMS Optimization instructed by Dr. Aqeel Ahmad Bazmi also from Chemical Engineering Department.

These events were attended by Engineers working in industry and researchers and academicians. Engineers registered with Pakistan Engineering Council are required to gather 3.5 CPD credit points in order to be eligible for the exam for Professional Engineer status. These Workshops carried 0.5 credits each.

The events were organized by Mr. Mian Ahmed Yaser Assistant Professor (Electrical Engg. Dept.) who is also the convener of the CPD Committee.

COMSOL Multi-physics Workshop

Objectives:

COMSOL Multi-physics is based on advanced numerical methods for modeling and simulating Physics based problems. The software allows arbitrarily including your equations, describing material properties, selecting boundary conditions, or even a unique set of partial differential equations.  COMSOL Multi-physics is a powerful integrated environment designed for inter-disciplinary product development with a unified workflow regardless of the application area. It gives the user to model and simulate multi-physics problems across broad range of engineering and non- engineering disciplines  such as  chemical engineering, electrical engineer, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, fluid flow, and acoustics etc., It also  enables to import/export with Matlab and or Excel.

GAMS Optimization Workshop

Objectives:
The General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) is latest sophisticated and user friendly software specifically designed for modeling linear, nonlinear and mixed integer optimization problems. The system is especially useful with large, complex problems. Optimization modeling is most renowned and widely applicable tool in Operations Research (OR), a discipline dealing with the application of advanced analytic method to form mathematical models of complex engineering and management problems and to establish wise and effective decisions in order to build more productive system based on careful predictions of outcomes and estimates of risk. OR is applicable to a lot of problems such as planning work shifts for large organizations, choosing investments for available funds, or designing facilities for customer service can also be posed in mathematical form. Optimization modeling has extensive applications in different fields, especially, the study of physical and chemical systems, transportation, production planning and scheduling systems, facility location, financial resource allocation systems, and engineering design
