MS Mathematics
Introduction:
Mathematics is one of the oldest academic subjects and is one of the most mature and well-developed disciplines of basic sciences. Mathematicians are making lasting contribution to the society by helping to solve problems in such diverse fields as health sciences, engineering, computer sciences, management science, government organizations and social sciences.
The Department of Mathematics provides services to the entire Institute, from undergraduate students to graduate students in Mathematics as well as other departments who need to upgrade the quantities and mathematical skills of their students. The department offers BS Mathematics and MS Mathematics in the disciplines of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and computational mathematics.
Objectives:
The aim of the department is to pursue excellence in Mathematics through teaching and research and we are achieving our objectives with the help of our highly qualified and distinguished faculty of national and international repute. Faculty members are publishing their research results in a range of professional referred journals and books. Faculty members are active in delivering talks at various international and regional conferences besides this the department is looking to host an international conference in the various disciplines of Mathematics.
Program Duration:
The MS program will be comprised of 24 credit hours of graduate level courses and 6 credit hours of thesis. Duration of this program is at least two years.
Major Courses:
Pure Mathematics (Commutative Algebra, Algebraic Topology, Theory of Groups etc.), Applied Mathematics (Optimization Theory, Advanced Topics in Graph Theory, Advanced Mathematical Statistics), Computational Mathematics (Numerical Solution of ODEs, Numerical Optimization, General Relativity)
The specialized areas of MS in Mathematics include:
- Computational Mathematics
- Thermal and Fluid Sciences
- Graph theory and Algebra
- Computer Aided Geometric Design
- Bio-medical Applications
- Financial Mathematics
Eligibility Criteria:
- A 16 years degree, in the relevant field, from an accredited educational institution with First Division (annual system) or CGPA 2.5/4.0 (semester system).
- No third division (annual system) or D grade (semester system) throughout the academic career.
- NTS GAT (General) with 50% marks minimum.
Faculty & Skills:
The Department of Mathematics at CUI Sahiwal comprises 25 full-time faculty members among which 13 faculty members have PhD degrees, enriched with various specializations in diverse areas of Mathematics like, Commutative Algebra, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical and Statistical Modeling etc.
Faculty is high enough motivated to grasp funded research projects and due to lack of Mathematics students they are serving as a supporting for other departments.
Career Prospects:
The professional diverse career opportunities may depend upon individual skills and interests of the expected graduates. They may pursue their career in academia, research or in any field of life. In particular the graduated student will be beneficial for entire region to promote educational skills and applied knowledge gained from their mentors.
