Biography:

Dr. Muhammad Umer is Associate Professor at COMSATS University Islamabad for Biological Sciences. An internationally prestigious scholar, Dr. Umer earned his PhD in Biology from Imperial College London, UK. He studied the potential of Miscanthus spp. as Bioenergy/Biofuel crop. He has more than nine years research and teaching experience in - renewables specially with the reference of production of bioethanol, fermentation, enzymology of biofuels, - plant beneficial bacteria, biochar, soil and plant nutrition. He produced PhD, MS and BS students under his supervision. He has designed and developed two novel courses on "Introduction to Biofuels" & "Advanced Biofuels Technology" for undergrad and postgrad students and currently teaching at CUI and doing supervision of different projects. His research interests are focused on investigation of enzymatic degradation of plant cell walls of different tissues and cell types, studying the changes in starch and carbohydrate content with the help of staining and chemical assays at different harvesting times & exploitation of metabolic capabilities of microorganisms to facilitate biofuel production.
