One–day Hybrid Symposium on

The Great Transformation in Pakistan: Feminisation of Agriculture and its Implications for Food Security and Women’s Empowerment

Dr. Shahzad Kouser, Assistant Professor from Department of Economics organized a CUI One-Day Hybrid International Symposium on "The Great Transformation in Pakistan: Feminisation of Agriculture and its Implications for Food Security and Women’s Empowerment". This symposium is aimed to showcase gender findings of her Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) funded research project entitled "Developing Competitive and Inclusive Value Chains of Pulses in Pakistan" among national and international scientific/academic communities and policy makers. Among international speakers were Dr. Rajendra Adhikari from University of Queensland, Australia; Dr. Kuntala Lahiri-Dutt, from Australian National University; Dr. Deepa Joshi from International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Sri Lanka; Ms. Uzma Batool, from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Pakistan Office. Ms Sidra Ishfaq from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Islamabad and Dr. Shahzad Kouser. Keynote speaker was Dr. Cheryl Doss from the University of Oxford, England and concluding remarks were given by Ms. Simi Sadaf Kamal, Chairperson of Hisaar Foundation and Global Vice Chair International Water Management Institute (IWMI). Chief Guest was Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed, Head of Economics department. Dr. Shahzad Kouser also organized the poster competition among students and faculty on the theme of the symposium. Two Judges Prof. Ray Collins and Dr. Liz Petersen from University of Queensland, Australia announced the three winners of the poster competition as Ms. Farah Naz, Ms. Aqsa Sajid and Dr. Shahzad Kouser.
