The Department of Computer Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus, organized a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop titled “The Next Generation Hardware Design” on October 17, 2025.

The session was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Yasir Qadri, who shared valuable insights into emerging trends in modern hardware architectures, with a particular focus on RISC-V and its growing role in shaping the future of processor design and open-source hardware development.

The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of next-generation computing systems, addressing the limitations of proprietary architectures and highlighting the advantages of RISC-V as a flexible, cost-effective, and innovation-oriented alternative. The trainer also discussed challenges in hardware-software co-design, standardization, scalability, and performance optimization, while emphasizing the importance of developing local expertise in open-source processor technologies.

More than 40 participants, including faculty members and students, actively engaged in the session. The event emphasized the need for skill enhancement and encouraged students and researchers to explore RISC-V tools and platforms to stay abreast of global hardware design trends.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks to Dr. Muhammad Yasir Qadri for his informative and engaging presentation. A souvenir was presented by the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering in recognition of his valuable contribution toward promoting open-source hardware innovation.
