The Department of Civil Engineering organized a CPD seminar on “Finite Element Method: A Modern Tool for Structural Analysis in Civil Engineering” on May 15, 2025. The HoD of Civil Engineering, Dr. Hassan Ashraf, welcomed the guest speaker, Engr. Dr. Zahid Shabir, who serves as the Director NDC, AMC. Dr. Shabbir holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands in 2012. He has authored 10 research publications in the high-impact factor Journals.
The guest speaker emphasized the importance of finite element methods across various fields, particularly in civil engineering. He illustrated his points with a real-world example of a truss beam and presented guidelines regarding the advance method's applications and recent developments in the field. He also discussed commonly used FEM software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, and SAP2000, highlighting their roles in structural analysis and design.
Students actively participated by asking the guest speaker questions, leading to an engaging discussion. At the end of the session, the Chairman, Civil Engineering, Dr. Adnan Nawaz, presented a CUI Wah souvenir to the guest speaker as a token of appreciation along with a vote of thanks.
